When to look
If you’re a student
Shared houses for the next academic year are advertised from the autumn term, around the University of Bristol in Clifton, Redland and Cotham, and near UWE in Fishponds, Filton and Stoke Gifford. There is no need to sign in a rush. Since 1 May 2026, new tenancies in England have no fixed term, so check how and when your group can give notice before you sign.
If you’re working
Bristol is one of the most competitive places to rent outside London, and good homes are often let within days. Have your ID for the right-to-rent check, proof of income and a reference ready before you view. Landlords can no longer invite or accept offers above the advertised rent, and a holding deposit is capped at one week’s rent.
