This Cookie Policy explains how RenterCheck uses cookies and similar technologies when you use rentercheck.co.uk.

RenterCheck is operated by Digital Ideation Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17059030, with its registered office at 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX.

We aim to collect as little information about visitors as reasonably possible.

RenterCheck sets one cookie. It keeps an administrator signed in to our private dashboard, and you will never receive it as a visitor. We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking technologies, and we do not build advertising profiles or track your activity across other websites.

Because we use no non-essential cookies, and store nothing on your device that outlives your visit, there is nothing here for you to consent to — which is why RenterCheck shows no cookie banner. The register below lists everything we use, and we will ask for your consent before introducing anything that requires it.

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Websites can also use technologies that perform similar functions, including local storage, session storage, pixels and scripts.

The UK rules on these technologies apply to storing information on your device or reading information from it, whichever technology is used. What matters is therefore what a website actually stores, not whether it happens to be called a cookie. This policy covers all of it.

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how people find and use RenterCheck. Plausible is a privacy-focused service that counts visits without cookies and without storing any identifier on your device. It recognises a visit using a value calculated on its own servers, which is discarded and regenerated daily, and which cannot be used to recognise you tomorrow or on any other website.

Plausible provides us with aggregated information such as:

• pages visited;
• the site or search engine that referred you;
• approximate country or region;
• device type, browser and operating system; and
• whether certain features of RenterCheck were used.

Plausible processes this data within the European Union. We do not send it the contents of a property report, an address you have looked up, or anything else you type into RenterCheck.

We also record events directly on our own servers so we can tell whether RenterCheck is useful. For example, we record that a property check was started or completed, that an offer for Complete RenterCheck was shown, or that someone chose to proceed with it.

These events are grouped using a random identifier held in your browser only for the lifetime of the tab. It is discarded when you close the tab, it is not derived from your IP address or from anything about you, and it does not let us recognise you when you return. We deliberately keep no identifier that survives your visit.

Strictly necessary

Required to provide a service you have asked for, or to keep the site secure. These are exempt from the consent requirement. Our administrator sign-in cookie is the only one.

Site management

Used by us to operate and test the site. The only item in this category marks our own testing traffic so that we can exclude it from our figures. It is set only if we deliberately visit a special link, and browsing the site will not set it on your device.

Analytics

Used to understand how the site is used. Ours is limited to information that lasts no longer than your visit, and to Plausible, which stores nothing on your device at all.

Advertising

Not used by RenterCheck.

RenterCheck will not deliberately classify analytics or advertising technology as strictly necessary in order to avoid obtaining consent.

This is the complete list. We review it whenever analytics, advertising, authentication or other technologies are added or materially changed.

RenterCheck uses no advertising, attribution or cross-site tracking technologies of any kind.

RenterCheck relies on third-party providers for hosting, data storage and the public datasets behind a report. Those providers process limited technical information needed to deliver their services securely, but they do not place cookies on your device through RenterCheck.

If we introduce advertising, marketing pixels or any other non-essential technology in the future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent before it is enabled.

Links from RenterCheck to external websites are governed by the privacy and cookie practices of those websites. We are not responsible for cookies placed by an external website after you leave RenterCheck.

You can control or delete cookies and stored data using your browser settings. Most browsers let you see what a site has stored, delete it, block particular sites, or block storage altogether.

Blocking storage will not prevent you using RenterCheck. Our analytics is written so that a browser refusing storage still works normally — the visit simply is not grouped. Because Plausible stores nothing on your device, blocking cookies does not stop the aggregated statistics described above.

We may update this Cookie Policy if the technologies or services used by RenterCheck change, or if legal requirements change.

The latest version will always be published on this page, and the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
