1.About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how RenterCheck uses cookies and similar technologies when you use rentercheck.co.uk.
RenterCheck is operated by Digital Ideation Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17059030, with its registered office at 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX.

2.Our approach
We aim to collect as little information about visitors as reasonably possible.
RenterCheck sets one cookie. It keeps an administrator signed in to our private dashboard, and you will never receive it as a visitor. We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking technologies, and we do not build advertising profiles or track your activity across other websites.
We do advertise RenterCheck on Google. Measuring whether those adverts work normally means installing Google’s advertising tag, which places an advertising cookie on your device. We have deliberately not done that. Instead, when you arrive from one of our adverts, we read the click reference that Google adds to the web address and record it on our own servers. Nothing about the advert is stored on your device, and no Google advertising script runs on this website.
Because we use no non-essential cookies, and store nothing on your device that outlives your visit, there is nothing here for you to consent to — which is why RenterCheck shows no cookie banner. That includes our advertising: we chose the measurement method that stores nothing on your device precisely so that this stays true. The register below lists everything we use, and we will ask for your consent before introducing anything that requires it.
4.Website analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how people find and use RenterCheck. Plausible is a privacy-focused service that counts visits without cookies and without storing any identifier on your device. It recognises a visit using a value calculated on its own servers, which is discarded and regenerated daily, and which cannot be used to recognise you tomorrow or on any other website.
Plausible provides us with aggregated information such as:
- pages visited;
- the site or search engine that referred you;
- approximate country or region;
- device type, browser and operating system; and
- whether certain features of RenterCheck were used.
Plausible processes this data within the European Union. We do not send it the contents of a property report, an address you have looked up, or anything else you type into RenterCheck.
5.Our own measurement
We also record events directly on our own servers so we can tell whether RenterCheck is useful. For example, we record that a property check was started or completed, that an offer for Complete RenterCheck was shown, or that someone chose to proceed with it.
These events are grouped using a random identifier held in your browser only for the lifetime of the tab. It is discarded when you close the tab, it is not derived from your IP address or from anything about you, and it does not let us recognise you when you return. We deliberately keep no identifier that survives your visit.

6.Advertising measurement
We run adverts for RenterCheck on Google. To know whether that money is buying anything useful, we need to be able to tell that someone who arrived from an advert went on to show real interest in the paid product.
When you click one of our adverts, Google adds a click reference to the web address you land on. We read that reference from the address and store it on our own servers alongside the random, tab-scoped identifier described above. If you later click the button to buy Complete RenterCheck, we periodically send Google a file saying that the click with that reference led to that action, together with the time and the price shown.
What we do not do matters as much as what we do. We do not run Google’s advertising tag. We do not place an advertising cookie, or any other advertising identifier, on your device. We do not send Google your email address, the address you looked up, the contents of a report, or anything else you type into RenterCheck. We do not build an advertising profile, and we cannot recognise you on any other website.
Only a click on the Complete RenterCheck button is reported this way. Ordinary page views, completing a free check and submitting your email address are not sent to Google.
This is why RenterCheck still shows no cookie banner. The UK rules on cookies govern storing information on your device or reading information from it. A reference contained in the web address you asked for is neither, so this method requires no consent — whereas the standard Google advertising tag would.

RenterCheck places no advertising, attribution or cross-site tracking technology on your device of any kind. The only advertising measurement we carry out is the Google click reference described above, which is read from the web address you arrive on and kept on our own servers.
9.Third-party services
RenterCheck relies on third-party providers for hosting, data storage and the public datasets behind a report. Those providers process limited technical information needed to deliver their services securely, but they do not place cookies on your device through RenterCheck.
If you buy Complete RenterCheck, you pay on Stripe’s own payment page at checkout.stripe.com. Stripe may set its own cookies there, for security and fraud prevention, under its own cookie policy. No Stripe code runs on rentercheck.co.uk, and Stripe sets nothing on your device while you are on RenterCheck.
If we introduce advertising, marketing pixels or any other non-essential technology in the future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent before it is enabled.
Links from RenterCheck to external websites are governed by the privacy and cookie practices of those websites. We are not responsible for cookies placed by an external website after you leave RenterCheck.
11.Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if the technologies or services used by RenterCheck change, or if legal requirements change.
The latest version will always be published on this page, and the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
