RenterCheck browser extension

Check a home to rent on the listing itself. On Rightmove, Zoopla, OpenRent and SpareRoom, RenterCheck adds a small panel with facts about the area from public records, and a link to the free check of the home with its asking rent already filled in.

Coming soon to the Chrome Web Store.

What it shows

  • The listing’s asking rent beside the council’s average private rent, from the Office for National Statistics.
  • Whether a council property licensing scheme covers the area.
  • Flood risk from rivers, the sea and surface water, from the Environment Agency.
  • The nearest railway, Tube and tram stations.

A part that can’t be checked says “Not checked”, never that all is well. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers, for homes in England.

Privacy

The extension reads only the listing you’re viewing. It sends RenterCheck only that listing’s postcode, or its map location, and nothing is saved. It doesn’t read other pages, your browsing history or any account details, and it uses no cookies or tracking. The asking rent stays in your browser unless you choose to run the free check. The privacy notice has the detail, and the terms apply as on the website.

Support

Something not working, or a listing site it should cover? Email hello@rentercheck.co.uk with a link to the listing, and we’ll look into it.

Questions about the browser extension

Why isn’t the RenterCheck panel showing?

It appears only on a rental listing’s own page on Rightmove, Zoopla, OpenRent or SpareRoom, not on search results, and not on homes for sale. It needs the listing to show where the home is, by postcode or on its map. If you hid it, it stays hidden until you close the tab; reopen it from the “RenterCheck this home” button in the corner.

Does it cost anything?

No. The extension and the area facts are free, and so is the free check of the home it links to. Complete RenterCheck, the full report, is an optional purchase on rentercheck.co.uk.

What does it send to RenterCheck?

Only the listing’s postcode, or its map location when there is no postcode, to look up facts about the area. Nothing is saved. It doesn’t read other pages, your browsing history or any account details, and it uses no cookies or tracking.

Are the figures about this exact home?

No. They describe the area: the council’s average rent, licensing schemes for the area, flood risk around the postcode and stations nearby. The free check of the home looks at the exact address: its energy certificate, sale history, flood zone and more.

Does it work outside England?

No. RenterCheck covers homes in England only, because the records and renting law it checks against are England’s.

Is it made by Rightmove, Zoopla, OpenRent or SpareRoom?

No. RenterCheck is independent and not affiliated with any of them.
