Council tax band check · £3.99
Paying too much council tax?
We compare your band with similar homes on your street to see if you could lower your council tax or claim back payments from the council. If it looks too high, we write the emails and send them to your inbox.
Whatever it finds, the £3.99 goes towards a Complete RenterCheck (£6 instead of £9.99), so you don’t lose out. Not renting? Share it with someone who is.
What you get
- Your home’s band against similar homes nearby: the same kind of home, a similar size and age.
- What those homes sold for, and what a band lower would save you each year.
- If most are in a lower band, a review request for the Valuation Office with the evidence in it, ready to send.
- Questions to email the council: a refund for what you’ve overpaid, discounts, and paying over 12 months.
- All of it in your report, and emailed to you.
Your band can go up as well as down
A review looks at your home afresh, and the Valuation Office can review similar homes nearby too. That’s why the check tells you plainly when similar homes are in the same or a higher band: then a review isn’t worth the risk. How a challenge works.
Questions
Do I have to be renting?
No. Anyone who pays the council tax can ask for the band to be reviewed, whether they rent or own. If you aren’t renting, you can pass your credit towards Complete RenterCheck to someone who is.
What if my band looks right?
The check says so, and tells you not to ask for a review, since a review can move a band up as well as down. You keep the comparison, and your payment still counts as a credit towards Complete RenterCheck.
How does the credit work?
The £3.99 goes towards Complete RenterCheck, so it costs £6 instead of £9.99. On the same home it comes off when you upgrade from your report. For any other home, use the code we email you within a year, or share it with family or friends by WhatsApp or email. It can be used once.
Will I get money back?
If the Valuation Office lowers your band, the council refunds what you’ve overpaid, usually back to when you started paying at that address. Nobody can promise a lower band, so the check gives you the evidence and an honest view of whether it’s worth asking.
